The Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, also known by its abbreviation DMCH, is located in the capital city of Bangladesh. There is a tertiary care hospital and a medical school on the same campus. Following India’s partition in 1946, Calcutta Medical College moved all advanced students (K-4 to K-1) and numerous instructors and professors to the newly formed Dhaka Medical College to initiate academic programs and maintain hospital infrastructure. On July 10, often referred to as DMC Day, academic classes started. The committee that established the Dhaka Medical College had Major W. J. Virgin as its first principal and chair. Initially, the medical, surgical, gynecological, and otolaryngology departments were the only four.

Over 10,000 doctors who have had important positions in society have graduated from this illustrious institution. The language movement’s hub was the Barrack dormitory at Dhaka Medical College, which operated from 1948 to 1952. The language movement claims the lives of the students at this medical college. The Shaheed Minar, which was once a part of the DMCH site, eventually underwent division. Many of this institution’s medical staff and students participated in the Liberation War of 1971, both directly and indirectly. Dhaka Medical College started off as a single facility and has now expanded to encompass a new addition to the college building: an auditorium, a nuclear medicine center, dorms for men and women, burn units, and other amenities on a land area of about 25 acres. 34 departments and 42 wards house 234 doctors, 140 interns, 560 nurses, and 1100 other staff members to provide 24-hour medical care both indoors and outdoors. The hospital currently serves over 3500 inpatients per day and has about 2300 beds, in addition to a new academic and hospital complex with a bone marrow transplantation facility.

The university also provides students with a wealth of intellectual and extracurricular resources, such as a library, residence halls, sports facilities, career counseling, institutional hospitals, and organizational services that expose them to improved learning and research methods while guaranteeing the maintenance of their mental and physical health. Students benefit from the university’s affiliation with a multispecialty pharmaceutical hospital when completing their clinical rotations.
